Minnesota's Scenic Byways

Ladyslipper scenic Byway

Ladyslipper

This 28-mile byway runs through the Chippewa National Forest. Formerly known as “Scenic Highway,” the byway was renamed in honor of the state flower. Visitors can hike, bike, fish and boat at Norway Beach Recreation Area on the southeast shore of Cass Lake. The namesake orchid grows in abundance just north of Pennington along the roadside, typically in late June. Then take in a slice of history at Camp Rabideau, one of only three 1930s Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) camps in the country that are being preserved. The Blackduck area, at the north end of the byway, is a favorite hunting and fishing territory.
