The short but spectacular Rushing Rapids Parkway cuts a path through the beautiful hardwood forests and walls of slate that make up the landscape of Jay Cooke State Park. The 63-mile paved Willard Munger Bike Trail passes through the park, and there are 50 miles of hiking trails over rugged, wooded hills and along the St. Louis River. Spring wildflowers and fall colors are seasonal highlights. This 9-mile drive also meets the northern tip of the Veterans Evergreen Memorial Drive byway. (Note: There will be road construction on Rushing Rapids Parkway during summer 2007.)

QUICK TRIPS
There’s a great view of the century-old hydro-electric Thomson Dam and River Gorge on Highway 210. In Jay Cooke State Park, walk across the 200-foot swinging suspension bridge overlooking the rushing St. Louis River. Experience the rapid river up close with a whitewater rafting tour. Those who prefer dry land can pause for a moment in the historic pioneer cemetery in the park, or mountain bike through the woods. Come evening, check for a performance by the County Seat Theater Company at the Old Country Church Theater south of Jay Cooke State Park.
