Overlooking Lake Superior and the harbor city of Duluth is Skyline Parkway. The 36-mile route follows a series of roads along a ridgeline that passes by wooded parks and residential neighborhoods from Duluth’s Lester Park to the Spirit Mountain Recreation Area. The Thompson Hill Travel Information Center provides driving directions for the byway and is a good starting point. Then soak in the beauty of Enger Park’s spring daffodils and themed gardens, and climb the five-story stone Enger Tower for a view of the Twin Ports. Hikers come to enjoy the leisurely trails at Lester Park, and the rugged, two-mile backwoods trek at Chester Park. Birders come for the chance to watch hawks migrating at the Hawk Ridge Nature Reserve.
